I Am Black: Translated

Before i knew that the sky was blue, i knew that i was black (some people would say that i was too black).i was constantly made aware of what i was but i never considered what it meant to me.

For me, what i mean when i say that i am "black" is describe my soul.
it means to be encased in an unfathomable soul that carries a rhythm, a secret, a pulse, a song of life, tragedy, and joy. it is to be rooted in africa, improvised in the caribbean and sifted through america. i carry three continents within me - forgotten, lost, displaced, created, reclaimed, remixed, resurrected and hyphenated.
